Dec. 6th, 2008 09:22 pmI am very, very tired.
My mother in law is being kind of a pain in the ass. Last week, she told us that she'd take the baby on Friday during the day so we could get a break. She never showed, never called. Bren called her a few times - no answer. Finally she answered her phone and told him that she had decided to go shopping. Ag. This morning, she called me and told me she wasn't going to go to her usual card game and would take Ben - she was making lasagna for dinner and asked us to come over. When we got there, she said that she wasn't going to take Ben overnight after all. She had decided that she was going to go to church and then volunteer the next day. I realize that she was going to do us favors, but for the love of Pete, please CALL us and tell us you've changed your mind.
Ben really needs to go to daycare. The average price around here is $145 per week - almost twice what I paid for Katelyn at that age. I had to pack her lunch every day, but that doesn't account for the huge increase. Bren and I have to sit down and work out a new budget to pay for this, and I know I'll be ramping up on the overtime because what we make now just won't cut it - especially since I'm paying back loans I took out of my 401k to the tune of $195 per paycheck. So we have to come up with another $600 per month, and then add on another $300 or so for a car payment when I finally buy the car we so desperately need.
We're going to start house hunting again after the new year. Right now we pay $1100 in rent and I'm hoping our mortgage will come out to around $800 per month for the size house we want. That's what they quoted us when we applied 2 years ago, and the rates have dropped astronomically since then. That would help with the bills, but we also need to build up savings. We blew through the money we got as gifts already - buying the sectional sofa and bed cost us about $2500, and I can't tell you where the rest went. So much money gets wasted in this house. :( I'm going to have to put my foot down about the takeout and dining out - when you're doling out $40+ for something that costs $10 or $20 to make at home, it really adds up. And I'm not one to be pointing any fingers; I'm just as bad as Katie and Bren for wanting Chinese or fast food or what have you.
Still, I'm glad that we're not in the position that some people are in... I wish I could do so much more to help people who really need it. :(
