I'm all about supporting the guys in the military. They're doing a horrible, thankless job and they have no choice - once they make the choice to join up, that is. Plus, most of them are still babies.

I wonder how much of it is just to get a rise out of me, though. For my 18th birthday, they pretended to have joined the KKK and brought me an initiation kit. Later, my mom confessed to have found it in the trash (their business is in hickville) and they wanted to see how far they could push it. FUCK YOU.

This week it was, "these soldiers fight to keep Canada English!" Aside from the fact that we have 2 official languages and a 21-year-old Karine Blais -- a Francophone -- died this week.

The fact that this person should also a> know I am 1/2 French and b> the majority of the people in my family who were in the army were Francophone, just sends me into fits of rage.

I did not know that... I was thinking more along the lines of sniper rifles and those really huge guns they use on Mythbusters from time to time.

Well technically, the ban is supposed to be against assault rifles. Machine guns can be a subset of those, but they can also be larger. That's why, for example, there's a distinction in the military between "rifleman" and "machine gunner." The kind of things they're really trying to ban, though, are AR-15s, AK-47s, and that sort of thing.

My husband and I got into this with our Republican friend from New York and his wife from Montana at dinner last night. They were talking about the law against handguns in NYC and how the meaning of "assault rifle" can be widened to include all sorts of legal, "normal" guns. Is it possible? Sure, but it won't happen. This FREAK OUT of people buying up guns and ammo like the world is ending really just annoys me and makes me facepalm.

Yeah, they're not going to fuck with the second amendment. You have the right to defend yourself and hunt for food or sport. Not kill EVERY MOTHERFUCKER IN THE ROOM!!!!! (sorry, I love Sam Jackson.)

The city I live in has a horrible crime rate and I'd really love it to be less likely that my kids are mown down by machine guns in front of our apartment by some asshole running from the cops or trying to up his body count for some gang initiation.
