I was able to register for classes. I'll be taking Chem, Stats, Anthropology, and Geography of World Economics. The last three are to make up for past failures and hopefully raise my grades enough so i can get financial aid next semester. My mom is sending me a check so I can pay for my classes now and I'll pay her back next month.

Katie made the honor roll for the first time ever! 5 A's and 2 B's! I wish we had some money so we could reward her. Oh, well, she'll get her reward for Christmas - we want to get her a Wii and hope all our family and friends will join in to outfit her nicely. My mom is buying her the Wii fit. Her eyes are going to pop out of her head when she opens her presents. :D

Dude, that is awesome. Hopefully you won't die in the middle of that. But what a great start.

And nothing is a better example for Katie than you finishing school.

What is she into these days? I'm wondering if anything from my great purge would meet her fancy?

Two of the classes start at the beginning of the semester, one starts in Feb, and one in March, so I won't be overwhelmed at first. I'm expecting Anthro and Geography to be a cakewalk, mainly because social sciences were always super easy for me.

As for Katie, she seems to like mysteries and slightly scary stories when it comes to books. And nonfiction about animals. I'm trying to get her reading more, but she's a tv junkie. I hope she gets inspired by the sight of me cracking the books. :)

Cool. I don't know if I have anything appropriate - more in 'physical condition' than 'quality'. But I will see if anything is appropriate.

Which reminds me, I reread the Valdemar books you gave me over the last week. :) Amazing that they're still in good enough condition.

Awesome for both of you!

I never got rewarded for grades as a kid, though. I suggested it once and my dad said I'd have to pay him and mum whenever they did well, in that case. :P

Would Coraline be too dark for her? I loved Gordon Koreman, Ronald Dahl and YA fantasy like Tamora Piere at her age.

Whoops, answered part of that down below accidentally. I never got rewarded, either, but I sure got punished if I didn't meet expectations. :/ But she worked very hard for the grades she got - in the past she'd been kind of lacksidasical about school - and she deserves a reward.

She's seen Coraline the movie... She's not really a reader, which makes me sad. She voluntarily read some Goosebumps books and one of the Buffy series, but I've been unable to wheedle her into cracking Harry Potter or any of the other kids' or YA books. :(

don't underestimate the "reward" of having your parents get really proud of you for doing well. make her favorite dinner one night or something, and hang the report card on the fridge :)

No, I really get that kind of reward. I was wanting to take her out to dinner. Bren bought her cheesecake, though, so she jumped up and down in happiness. :)

Congrats to Katie!!! :D Does she have a proper comfy bed yet? I know you were shopping for that for her a while back...

I am glad to hear that you have successfully registered for classes. I know you've had quite a trauma trying to get your registration in!

I'll pass it along. No, she doesn't have her new bed yet, my MIL has one at her house waiting for when we move.

Oh, me too. What a frigging mess that was. :(
