I was reading a post on a blog about how your tastes change every so often. I've never been a really picky eater - the few foods I'll outright refuse are tomato juice, okra, raw onions, cottage cheese, and overly spicy things. So it took me a while to think about what I like now that I didn't as a kid, and the only thing I could think of was cooked bell peppers. I'm still choosy about my condiments - it has to be Heinz ketchup and Hellman's mayo - but anything else, I'll happily scrumpf down. I don't like the taste of alchohol, nor am I a coffee fan, unless it's been heavily sweetened and flavored.

My daughter is shaping up to be like me, but she's quite a bit pickier. She's scared of squash and I've never met one I didn't like. She also won't eat any fat, even bacon fat. Weirdo. Ben's more like his dad right now. Bren has a list of maybe 5 vegetables and 3 fruits he'll eat. No fish, no beans, no eggs, no nuts. Benny's got a tendency to ignore everything except meat and rice, potatoes, or noodles. And chocolate. He loves applesauce, but won't eat it unless he's got graham crackers to dip. I'm hoping I can influence him to eat better. What kind of kid doesn't like corn?

whenever our kids start whining about food i just cook EXTREMELY authentic mexican for a month or two. nothing gets them to eat vegetables quicker than serving nuthin but lengua (tongue) for a week straight.

*raises hand* I don't hate it, but it doesn't really do anything for me. I can eat it, but I hate how corn on the cob gets stuck in my teeth and think there's something gross about canned corn that I can't quite place.

But my tastes have definitely changed to much more eclectic. I used to hate most veggies, but now I love most of them (although I still don't like onions, and even though it's not a veggie, whole tomatoes are still a "eeeeh" area for me). It helps that I've been able to choose my own foods. It's a long way from refusing to eat turkey and eating PB&J on Thanksgiving to having eel be one of your favorite sushi types.

I don't think I've ever met anyone who didn't like corn (until now). Ben will just spit it out - usually we use frozen kernals. He does like popcorn though.

I think being able to choose for yourself has a large impact on what you like. It's cool that you were able to step out of your comfort zone and learn to like new things. :)

I've always liked the veggies that other kids hate. Brocholli, spinach, brussel sprouts etc. The ones I used to hate were squash and asparagus. I don't mind squash and zuccini if it's mixed in anything else and I loved fried squash and zuccini fingers, oh and zuccini bread. I still hate eggplant and artichoke, except I have eaten lean pockets that contaiend artichoke.

Artichokes are one of my favorite food. Fresh tastes different (and better, to me) than canned. Canned artichokes have been pickled. :P Eggplant - well, it depends on how it's prepared. Sometimes its bitter.

I've always loved most veggies, too. I never had any problems getting my dark greens at all.

the first time i made eggplant, it was *nasty.* i threw it away. that was before i learned that a) cutting the skin off and b) salting it for a little while cuts the bitterness out. or just using japanese eggplants, which apparently just don't have that bitterness.

also, i can't handle canned vegetables at all most of the time...frozen, yes, canned...blech. they do taste different.

I've never had japanese eggplant. Next time.

The only canned vegetable I like is green beans. I like the odd, salty taste of them. I'll eat canned corn, potatoes, mushrooms and peas, but I prefer frozen or fresh. Any other canned veggie is gross. I wonder why canned fruit isn't as bad tasting. :/

I won't force Katie to eat anything she doesn't want to. I hated it when my parents did that to me, but with tomato or V8 juice. Blech.

I loated broccoli & brussels sprouts and I still do. But I'm a fan of cabbage, some spinach etc. It's just the texture of broccoli that KILLS.

I am picky about my condiments as well- if I am buying them, some of them have to be specific brand names. Others? eh, I'll eat whatever.

Hopefully benny will expand his horizons.

Do you like the shredded broccoli stalks that they use for broccoli slaw? I do. But I'm a fan of "trees." :)

Ben ate a range of stuff as a baby - he loved broccoli and sweet potatoes as well as noodles and rice. I'm hoping it's just a phase.
