Mary Travers from Peter, Paul, and Mary died yesterday after a long battle with leukemia. She was 72. My mom loved their music and they were one of the first groups I was exposed to as a kid. It's so sad. She was an amazing person - singer and activist.

I called my mom to tell her and she had already heard. She told me that one of the guys from Laugh In, Henry Gibson, passed, too. :(

Mom told me some stories about my dad's family that weren't very nice. His dad's mother was like Mommy Dearest, and my grandfather was a raging alcoholic that would get drunk and beat everyone. He stole money out of my mom's purse to buy booze once. She said nobody understood why my grandmother stayed with him. All his kids hated him. He was kind of a dick to me the last time I saw him, but most of my memories of him are good. I feel like I need to know about this stuff, though. Especially since knowing it could help me figure out what the hell happened when I was a kid.

I found out that my great grandparents's names were William and Marjorie. That's something that I didn't know before.
