Well, we're moving to another apartment. We've found a place about 5 miles from here - secluded, gated community, high standards for residents (they do criminal background checks), very clean, nice looking place. When we were there to see an apartment, the manager spotted some kids who don't live there in the pool, so she was going to send over security. Some people might think that was assholish, but after living in this hell hole for a year, I think it's a good idea.

The fees are kind of high - $50 application fee for each of us, $200 for another fee, $150 deposit, and then the boys are going to cost us $450. But they don't add on to the rent per month for the kitties, which is nice. The apartment is a little bit smaller than this one, and about $100 more per month, but frankly, the security and the atmosphere make up for it. When we got home after viewing, a bunch of people were walking together down the drive, looking like they were up to no good. Seriously, it was like being on 22nd street in Tampa. I hate being scared to step outside after sunset. The comparison just made this place look so much worse.

So our time is going to overlap a bit. We have to take posession of the apartment within 10 days of turning in the paperwork (tomorrow) and our lease expires here on June 30. We're going to hire movers, so we have to get our asses moving on the packing. I'm driving monkey down on Saturday, coming back on Sunday, so that'll eat into our time. But it will get done.

I need a mini vacation very badly. My company is stingy with the vacation time. Since I've only been there 4 years, I still only get 2 weeks of vacation. Next year, it goes up to 3 weeks, and then I have to wait another 10 years before I get more time. Nice, huh? I've decided to use a week and a day of my vacation to extend my maternity leave - which I'm regretting now; I could really use some more time off - and I've used 2 days during the year. So that leaves me 1 day and 2 "personal" days. All of my sick time will be taken up by doctor visits. I worked Memorial day, and I'll be working July 4 (we have to work 4 holidays out of the year and I'm going on maternity for the second half, so I worked the first 4). So I haven't had any time off since my birthday. Katie wants me to take her birthday off. So I have some decisions to make.

Enough slacking - time to get back to work!

congrats on the new apartment. i think you'll definitely be happier in the long run in a nice apartment on your own terms, and eventually in a house that you guys buy yourselves on your own terms. there's a certain sense of satisfaction that comes with doing it on your own.

sucks about the vacation time though. although next year once you get 3 weeks, that will be nice.

Thank you. :) The only drawback is the apartment is on the second floor. I'm having a c-section and I don't want to contemplate walking up those stairs when I get back from the hospital. Plus I have nightmares about dropping the baby.

I decided to take off Friday - Tuesday so I can spend a little time with the monkey before she trots off to see her dad, and so I can pack a bit. And sleep in. Me likee sleep. :)
